Space physics deals with physical phenomena in space of which it is possible, at least in principle, to get detailed in situ observational information. Thus its main domain of applicability is the solar system, although many of its methods are applicable throughout the universe.
The main study objects of space physics include the Sun, the solar wind, and the magnetospheres, ionospheres, and upper atmospheres of the Earth and other planets.
The most important tool of space physics is plasma physics but in practical research good skills from fundamental physics to modern observational instrument technologies are needed.
