Key research areas
Space Sciences cover a wide range of topics from cosmology to studies of the near-Earth space. At the University of Helsinki, the Department of Astronomy covers the traditional fields of astronomy and astrophysics, such as high-energy astrophysics and space astronomy, planetary system research, and research of interstellar medium and star formation. At the Department of Physics the focuses are on the Sun, Solar-planetary relationships, cosmology and studies of the atmospheres of the Earth and planets. A part of the studies are conducted in close collaboration with the Space and Remote Sensing Units of the Finnish Meteorological Institute through the Kumpula Space Centre.Further information about the research can be found in the following pages:
