The Master's Degree Programme in Space Sciences

Key research areas

Space Sciences cover a wide range of topics from cosmology to studies of the near-Earth space. At the University of Helsinki, the Department of Astronomy covers the traditional fields of astronomy and astrophysics, such as high-energy astrophysics and space astronomy, planetary system research, and research of interstellar medium and star formation. At the Department of Physics the focuses are on the Sun, Solar-planetary relationships, cosmology and studies of the atmospheres of the Earth and planets. A part of the studies are conducted in close collaboration with the Space and Remote Sensing Units of the Finnish Meteorological Institute through the Kumpula Space Centre.
